3. Tien Phong Plastic - 60 years of steadfast step of a pioneer

60 years ago, on May 19, 1960, right on the 70th birthday of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, Tien Phong Plastic Factory - The first plastic processing factory in Vietnam was officialy inaugurated with ribbon cutting ceremony. The name "Tien Phong Plastic Factory" has bore full historical meaning of the emulation movement of "small plans" of young children in the North Vietnam combined with the policy of the State to have a specialized factory to produce plastic toys and utensils for children.

After the inauguration, the factory soon began stable production. The factory's party members were people who have political qualities, expertise, enthusiasm for the profession and were the core for the workers in the production process. From the vibrant emulation movement, there appeared many typical examples of workers with initiatives, encouraging all the employees of the factory to strive to achieve the title of socialist labor team. The products of Tien Phong Plastic Factory met the national defense needs.

After the reunification of the country, the factory entered the period of the implementation of production and business plans. The leaders have strongly renewed their way of thinking and doing, finding the measures of joint venture, economic integration, sourcing of raw materials, the markets to consume products in many localities in the country. By doing this, they have helped the factory overcome many difficulties in this period, ensuring steady production, steady improvement of living standart of officials and employees. The factory has made its contribution to fulfilling the mission as the core of the national plastic industry over the whole country.

After 30 years of operation, from which up to 10 years in the state of both “production and combat”, the equipments of the factory became “old”, outdated ones, there were shortage of spare parts ... At that time, the factory often faced passive, difficult situations with input materials, as well as product consumption. The "birth - death" challenge of the market mechanism forced the factory to make a choice.

In 1990, the factory boldly renewed the economic management mechanism and switched to the market mechanism. In a short time, new productions as a high-yield plastic resin, plastic pipes, roofing sheets...have been appearing.  Then, the Board of Directors, staff, and employees of the factory made bold decision. They determined to give up the once famous traditional product, boldly switching to PVC pipe production to meet the demand of series of construction works, water supply and drainage works across the country ... That marked a step of maturity after 30 year of the factory. On that development, on November 14, 1992, the Minister of Light Industry made a decision to rename Tien Phong Plastic Factory into Tien Phong Plastic Company.

The first meters of Tien Phong Plastic pipes were made on a production line which has been transported from the South. Then, after continuous efforts and creativity, the technical staff of Tien Phong Plastic Company made the miracle. They fabricated and installed themselves dozens of production lines of pipes, put into production.

New products on construction plastic pipes, water supply and drainage plastic pipes branded Tien Phong Plastic were born one after another. From the fumbles of the "new player", who had to work while learning, Tien Phong Plastic gradually mastered technology,  became the  pioneer and the leading wing of the plastic pipe industry in Vietnam.

Innovation for sustainable national branding

In 2005, Tien Phong Plastic Company officially became a joint stock company. In this period, Tien Phong Plastic was determined to invest in deep modernization of equipment and technology, to build new facilities in Duong Kinh district, Hai Phong city and constantly to expand its network across the three regions of North, Central and South of Vietnam, at the same time entered international market with a joint venture model with Laos.

In 2007, Tien Phong Plastic established the Southern Tien Phong Plastic Joint Stock Company to expand market share. In 2009, the first Tien Phong plastic pipes were produced at this factory. By 2017, Tien Phong South reached the revenue of 1,000 billion VND and in 2018, the total assets of the company were more than 1,650 billion VND. In 2019, the factory in Binh Duong will be expanded to 11 hectares, improving the product supply capacity in the southern market up to 60 thousand tons of products / year.

This achievement affirmed the strong breakthrough of Tien Phong Plastic which resulted by gray matter, the best pioneering efforts and especially by the inheritance and promotion of the solidarity and moral tradition of the previous generations. To this day, that pioneering torch is still burning in the hearts of thousands of Tien Phong Plastic people. From the leadership team to each officer and employee, all share one heart and use innovation as a driving force for rapid and sustainable development.

From the initial tons of products in 1990, 30 years later, the sales volume of Tien Phong Plastic pipes has reached more than 95 thousand tons of products, the total consolidated net revenue of Tien Phong Plastic and Tien Phong South is more than 6,000 billion VND. 2020 - the year marking a 60-year development, Tien Phong Plastic is optimistic with the goal of completing the business plan with a total consolidated revenue of more than 6,000 billion VND, output of nearly 130 thousand tons, profit before tax of the parent company's is 470 billion VND.

Production capacity that the company owns in three regions has reached 190 thousand tons / year - the largest compared to other companies in the same industry. With the motto "Innovation and sustainable development", along with investment in new and modern technologies, NTP has always identified human resources as an important strategy in business development.

Today, Tien Phong Plastic has built up the largest distribution system among plastic pipe enterprises, with nine distribution centers, more than 300 distributors and more than 16 thousand stores nationwide. Up to now, the company is the first and the only enterprise in Vietnam and is also one of the few in Southeast Asia that can produce HDPE pipes with a diameter up to 2,000 mm. Tien Phong Plastic actively looks for a strategic partner, Sekisui Group from Japan, to jointly create new, high-quality products, which are manufactured for the first time  in Vietnam.

So, that is "small plan" of the children and teenagers in North Vietnam which originated a great journey containing wisdom, enthusiasm, sweat and solidarity of generations of Tien Phong Plastic people during the 60 years. From a desire to produce plastic products in Vietnam, serving Vietnamese people has sparked a fire of aspiration for a pioneering sustainable national brand.
