Vietnamese communities around the world not only encourage and support each other to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, stabilize their livings, but also always turn to their homeland, and join hands with the country's fight against Covid-19.

The Vietnamese overseas join hands with country to overcome Covid-19 pandemicOn 20th September, the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received cash and items with a total value of nearly 824 million VND from Vietnamese overseas in Korea, Germany, and Macao (China) to support the fight against Covid-19 in Viet Nam.

Always turn to homeland

Mr. Do Xuan Hoang, the Chairman of Vietnamese Association in Russia said that in the context of the high rate of infection and death due to Covid-19 in Russia, the Vietnamese community faced many difficulties. However, they have encouraged and supported each other to overcome the pandemic, restore their production and business, especially resumed the football tournament in 2021, thus increasing solidarity in the community.

Responding to the call of the Party, the government and Vietnam Fatherland Front, the community launched the donation project “Đồng lòng Việt Nam” (Together with Viet Nam) and within half a month, the Vietnamese overseas living in 26 Russian provinces and cities have raised up to about 130,000 USD.

According to Ms. Phan Bich Thien, President of the Vietnam Women's Union in Hungary, in the complex situation of the Covid-19 pandemic around the world, the Vietnamese community in Hungary are not exceptional.

The Vietnam Women's Union in Hungary helps its members and their relatives by establishing groups to provide information about the local government's pandemic prevention and control policies; giving food and necessities to families with infected being self-treated.

The association has also called for donations to assist people in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces to fight Covid-19, and have received more than 200,000 Euro until now.

Mr. Tran Ba Phuc, Chairman of the Vietnam Businessmen Association in Australia, said that the Vietnamese community in Australia really pay attention to the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Viet Nam. They have made contributions to the National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund as well as the fight against Covid-19 in Viet Nam.

The above stories were just among many stories shared at a conference with the participation of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Vietnamese overseas associations held at the end of August.

Not to forget the origins

Not only associations, but also many individuals in overseas communities have practical actions towards the homeland.

It was Mr. David Duong, President of California Waste Solutions (CWS) and Vietnam Waste Treatment Co., Ltd., who donated 250 ventilators; Mr. Tran Ngoc Phuc - Founder, Chairman and General Director of Metran, and Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Japan, the inventor of the Hummingbird high-frequency artificial ventilator, MV20 ventilator, who supported to implement the project which provides 2,000 MV20 ventilators to Viet Nam; Lawyer Vo Duc Duy, an Vietnamese overseas in the US, who negotiated to buy 500,000 Moderna vaccine vials to give to people in Ho Chi Minh City….

To recognize the affection and responsibility for the homeland as well as the spiritual and material contributions from the Vietnamese overseas to the economic development of the country, especially their support for the domestic fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the President of the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front, said that the companionship and enthusiasm of Vietnamese overseas in all national journeys stems from the patriotic spirit. “Despite being far away from home, the origin of the Dragon and Fairy of the Vietnamese overseas have not been faded away", Chien said.

"That clearly represents the culture and traditions of the Vietnamese people, being “the tree has its own roots, the river has its own source", "the gourd and squash should love each other". They are very precious”.

Promoting the power of national solidarity

The above impressive figures resulted from the process of “comprehensively and vigorously implementing the work on Vietnamese overseas" as stated in the 13th Party Congress’ documents.

The Political Report at the Congress stresses that "it is necessary to have a policy to attract resources from Vietnamese overseas to contribute positively to the cause of national construction and defence".

The Socio-economic Report also requires the accomplishment of the task of Vietnamese citizen protection abroad and taking full advantage of the resources of Vietnamese overseas to contribute to the national development".

This is the Party's recognition of the role of the overseas Vietnamese; with the policy of mobilizing the resources of Vietnamese overseas.

It is also the concretization of the Party's stance on "strongly reviving patriotism, the will for national self-reliance, the strength of national solidarity and the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country".

Recently, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have promoted the work of information and propaganda about the guidelines and policies of the Party and State towards overseas Vietnamese;

Asking Vietnamese overseas to actively respond to mobilization campaigns and emulation movements, join in the socio-economic development process, and contribute to the development of the homeland.

Understanding the difficulties that Vietnamese overseas are confronting, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has coordinated with the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs to support the Vietnamese community in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia with 4 billion VND to overcome the hardship, carry out many practical activities to mobilize, gather and unite overseas Vietnamese; jointly take care of and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the overseas Vietnamese community.

According to Pham Quang Hieu - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, implementing the Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW approved by the Politburo on the work of Vietnamese people abroad in the new situation, the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs are coordinating with the Ministry of Education and Training to standardize the textbook system; coordinate with Vietnamese associations abroad to improve the online teaching and bring Vietnamese language to the Vietnamese overseas community, without interruption in the pandemic situation.
