10th Plenum of Party Central Committee, 12th tenure opens
The 10th plenum of the Party Central Committee, 12th tenure, ceremoniously opened in Hanoi, on May 16, 2019.
General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong presides over and speaks at the Conference
Assigned by General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister and Political bureau member Nguyen Xuan Phuc operated the opening session.
At this conference, the Party Central Committee will discuss and contribute opinions to the outline of the Political Report; the outline of the Report on 10 years of implementing the 2011 Program (added and developed); the outline of the Report on reviewing the implementation of the Strategy of Social and Economic Development for 10 years (2011-2020) and the formulation of the Strategy of social and economic development for 10 years (2021-2030, among others.
Speaking at the opening meeting, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong said that in recent time, the Document Subcommittee, the Socio-Economic Subcommittee and the Party Rule Subcommittee have prepared the draft Outline of the documents to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress to solicit the guiding ideas of the Political Bureau.
He proposed that the Party Central Committee spares more time to study carefully all the materials and discuss and contributes opinions to the draft Outline of the Reports, first of all the Political Report.
On May 14, 2019, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong presided over the meeting of the key leaders of the Party and the State. On May 15, 2019, he chaired the meeting of the Political Bureau concerning the preparatory work of the ongoing 10th Plenum of the Party Central Committee, 12th tenure; the 7th session of the National Assembly, 14th term and some other important issues./.

On May 12, the Grand Vesak 2019 was opened under the theme: “Buddhism’s approach to global leadership and shared responsibilities for sustainable societies”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam takes great pride in being selected by the UN as the venue to organize the UN Day of Vesak 2019. He said he hoped that all people will act as the messenger of Buddha to make a contribution to pushing back conflicts, sufferings and building the nirvana on the real world.
In the end of the day, the Hanam Statement 2019 was released, showing the commitment of the world’s Buddhist Community to make a contribution to building peace for mankind.
The UN Day of Vesak has become a cultural festival imbued with the spirit of international solidarity, highlighting the message of peace, solidarity and love on the basis of the ideology of Buddha./.
Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation organized
The Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation – A pillar for Socio-Economic Development of Vietnam has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the International Development Informatics Association, bringing together over 300 delegates and snior experts at home and abroad.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and spoke at the conference. On May 15, he stressed that the solution should be done in such a way as to develop the grey matter and innovation in Vietnam’s economy.
The Ministry of Science and Technology should be a clue to coordinate with the ministries, branches and organizations concerned to act as the counsellor for the Government for the following 5 big issues:
1/ To make a proposal for the policy on encouragement and acceleration of innovation in the enterprise sector; take enterprises as the center of the innovation system and vigorously develop the startups and industrial innovation in enterprises.
2/ To promote the role of universities and research institutes in boosting the foundation of human resources for innovation; research work and application should be closely associated with the requirements of enterprises and of the economy.
3/ To boost the linkage of the network of innovation at home and abroad; the centers of intelligence connection play the core role in smart and sustainable cities. So, how is it done in Vietnam?
4/ To build the governance capacity of the State toward the innovation system and to perfect the institution for innovation activities.
5/ To focus on developing the national products based on new technologies and high technologies so as to form new technologies and new products, high added value, particularly in the fields where Vietnam has got big advantages such as agriculture, processing and manufacturing industries, information technology and so on.
Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam should have the strategic transformation so as to boost the research and development, startup and application in combination with technological development in some branches and areas of strong advantage. Also it is necessary to have the good coordination between the State and society in developing science and technology, between the internal strength and the external strength in developing science and technology and innovation./.
A lot of architectural vestiges of dynasties discovered in Thang Long Imperial Citadel
A lot of architectural vestiges of different dynasties were discovered as a result of an exploratory excavation of the area East of Kinh Thien Shrine in 2018, in the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.
This is the result of an excavation that discloses a cultural layer of 6.5 meters thick dating back from the Dai La time, through the Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen dynasties to the modern time
These cultural layers show a unified development among the stratigraphic walls. These layers are similar to the ones already unearthed in the holes at the areas in front of Kinh Thien Shrine. These cultural layers are 6.5 meters thick dating back from the Dai La time, through the Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen dynasties to the modern time.
As far as the vestiges are concerned, the excavation discloses some architectural vestiges under the Ly, Tran, early Le and middle Le dynasties. There are some vestiges of stone foundation architecture, very solid, showing the important position of Kinh Thien Shrine./.
African swine fever epidemic occurs on a large scale
In a short time, more than 1.2 million pigs have been destroyed due to a widespread African swine cholera epidemic. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development suggests that it is better to take stock of frozen clean pork for the coming time consumption.
Only in three months, African swine cholera epidemic has spread to 29 provinces and cities with 1.2 million pigs destroyed. This epidemic is threatening the people’s life and causing the unprecedented big economic losses. So, a synchronous protection and prevention must be carried out by the whole political system.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, it is necessary now to take stock of frozen clean pork to ensure the good supply in the coming time. On the other hand, the Government is ready to help enterprises to carry out this task. /.
