National Assembly renew its Questions-and-Answers activity

At the 6th session, the 14th National Assembly, the questions-and-answers activity has happened in three days (October 30 to November 1, 2018). A lot of deputies have put questions relating to various management areas of ministers and chiefs of sector.

What is renewed in this activity is that the National Assembly will not put questions to groups of issues as usual. In the opposite, questions are to be put to all the members of the Government and the chiefs of the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

In the last questions-and-answers session on November 1, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made clearer a number of issues relating to the responsibility of the Government.

The deputies put questions to the ministers concerned who have to give answers immediately. This is quite a positive move, reflecting the high sense of responsibilities of the chiefs of the sectors. The deputies are glad to see the change of the questions-and-answers form at this session of the National Assembly.

In total, there were 135 deputies having put questions./.

 

EC’s “Yellow Card” warning on Vietnam’s seafood hoped to be removed – Fishing job’s opportunities for sustainable development

A delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries on October 30, worked with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on removing the EC’s yellow card warning 0n Vietnam’s seafood.

The spokesperson of the EP’s Committee on Fisheries, Mr. Gabriel Mato, highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts in implementing the EC’s recommendations and undertook to accompany with Vietnam in the efforts to remove the yellow card warning on seafood.

At the working session, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong asserted that Vietnam has considered the EC’s yellow card warning as an opportunity to shift the people’s fisheries to the fisheries of responsible and sustainable development.

As planned, the delegation of the EP’s Committee of Fisheries will make surveys in Binh Dinh, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong where there is a phenomenon of unsustainable fisheries and efforts are being made in these localities to remove the EC’s yellow card warning on fisheries.

On October 29, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the delegation and kept it informed that Vietnam is actively implementing the national action plan on the fight against illegal fishing. He also asked Mr. Gabriel Mato and the delegation to support Vietnam and ask the European Commission to soon remove the “yellow card” warning on Vietnam’s fisheries export to the EU./.

 

5th International Film Festival in Hanoi organized

The 5th International Film Festival (HANIFF 2018) was officially launched at the Friendship Cultural Palace, Hanoi, on the night of October 27.

Actress Phuong Anh Dao in “Summer in Closed Eyes” is awarded for the best actress – the first of her career

The Festival was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Hanoi People’s Committee.

Present at the opening ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, representatives of the Hanoi-based embassies and over 1,000 delegates, guests and domestic and foreign media people.

Under the slogan “Cinema – Integration and Sustainable Development”, the Hanoi International Film Festival is aimed at honoring the cinema artistic talents. Participating in this year’s festival are the best films from 50 countries and territories, in which Vietnam has got over 40 films for different programs.

The Dark Room from Iran wins the first prize for the best feature film. Vietnamese actress Phuong Anh Dao in the film “Summer in Closed Eyes” is awarded for the best actress./.

 

Export sharply increases – turnover surpasses USD 200 billion in 10 months

According to the updated figures of the General Department of Statistics, all told, in the past 10 months of 2018, export turnover is estimated at USD 200 billion, a 14.2% increase year on year.

Of the said figures, the domestic economic area reached a value of USD 56.82 billion; the FDI area, (including crude oil) obtained a value of USD 143.45 billion, a y.o.y 13.2% increase.

The USA is the largest export market of Vietnam with turnover reaching USD 39 billion, a 12.8% increase y.o.y.

It if followed by the markets of the EU, China, the ASEAN, Japan and the Republic of Korea./.

 

Legendary golfer Grey Norman becomes Vietnam’s tourism ambassador

On October 31, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien handed the decision on appointing Mr. Greg Norman – a legendary golfer in the world with nickname “the Great White Shark” – as Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador for the 2018-2021 term.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that with his experience in business, education and charity, in his capacity as Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador, Mr. Greg Norman will help Vietnam’s tourism golf become the world’s destination.

Mr. Greg Norman expressed his pride in becoming Vietnam’s Tourism Ambassador and he plans to take golf as the foundation for enhancing the international golf tourism in Vietnam.

Greg Norman was born in 1955 in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. He was the world top golfer in 1980ss and 1990s. With the nickname “the Great White Shark”, he has won over 90 champion titles of the world’s golf prizes. He occupied the first position in the world’s golf raking for 331 weeks.

In Vietnam, he is the designer of 5 golf courses and the most famous golf course is The Bluff Ho Tram Strip in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province./.

 

State investments only made in some newspapers for political tasks

As far as the plan on the public services of the information and communications sector are concerned, to the year 2021, with the orientation to 2030 recently approved by the Government, it is aimed to reduce 10% of the units in this field and also 10% of the staff in this area.

As reported, the Government will only make investments in a number of newspapers that implement the political and propaganda tasks with the support of the State budget in terms of publications and programs suitable to the specific political tasks in each stage and in each area.

Accordingly as planned, all the public services units in the press area (including printed newspapers, magazines, radio and television and electronic newspapers and magazines) or specifically, they are Nhan Dan Daily, the “Communist” Magazine, the Quan Doi Nhan Dan Daily (the People’s Army Daily), the Cong An Nhan Dan (the People’s Public Security) Daily, the Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam Radio, the Vietnam News Agency and some other press agencies under the Government’s control./.

 

WhiteHat Grand Prix 2018 organized in Hanoi

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung presents the first prize of the WhiteHat Grand Prix 2018 to the team LC1BC from Russia

After 8 intense hours of competition among 10 teams from 6 countries, the first prize with a value of VND 230 million went to the team LC1BC from Russia.

The WhiteHat Grand Prix 2018 was organized by the Information Security Authority, the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Vietnam Net Security Forum WhiteHat.vn, under the sponsorship of Bkav Technology Group, the VNPT Group and the Vietnam Airlines Corporation.

This is the fourth competition of the WhiteHat Grand Prix and it has been expanded globally and this is the first time, it is organized in Hanoi, Vietnam./.
