Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s European working visit and positive signal of EVFTA

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife have attended the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the P4G – Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030, paid an official visit to the Republic of Austria, the Kingdom of Belgium and the Kingdom of Denmark and paid a working visit in EU at the invitation of President of the European Council Donald Tusk, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Junker, Prime Minister of the Republic of Austria Sebastian Kurz, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Charles Michel and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark Lokke Rasmussen on Octobter 14-21, 2018.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has an audience with President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajini

During the visit, the two sides have striven together to boost the signing and ratification of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (IPA).

In his tight schedule starting on October 14, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, ministers and the senior delegation of the Government have had a lot of working meetings with the bilateral partners and leaders of the EU.

As a positive result, on October 17, the European Commission concluded its meeting and unanimously approved to submit its proposal to the European Council for an approval of official signing of EVFTA (expected to happen in the end of 2018) and to summit its proposal to the European Parliament for the approval (in early 2019). On the afternoon of October 17, the European Commission held an official press conference to announce this positive information and affirmed its commitment to enhance the implementation of the Agreement at the soonest time.

During his working visit, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has had the high-level meetings with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Austria, the current Chairmanship of the EU; held talks with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium where the EU offices are based and met the political circles, business community and spoken at the business forum.

That the European Commission has approved EVFTA right before the opening of the Asia-Europa Meeting 12 (ASEM 12), where heads of states of 53 Asian and European countries have been brought together, is the new, strong message and the concrete action affirming with the international community about the efforts to boost the connectivity and cooperation between Europe and Asia./.

 

6th session of 14th National Assembly to be convened on October 22

On October 18, 2018, General Secretary of the National Assembly Nguyen Hanh Phuc said that the National Assembly is expected to be convened on October 22, 2018 and concluded on November 21, 2018. According to the tentative agenda, the National Assembly will discuss about the law building; there will be a question and answer activities, consideration of personnel and the discussion on other issues.

The National Assembly will also listen to the Government’s report and discuss about the implementation of its Resolution on the 2018 plan on social and economic development and the work done in three years of implementing the five-year plan (2016-2020) and the 2019 plan on the social and economic development.

At this session, the National Assembly will also consider ratifying the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and other important documents.

The National Assembly will also elect the new State President who is expected to be sworn in on the afternoon of October 23, 2018. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is the single personnel introduced by the Party Central Committee to be elected as President./.

 

More than VND 857 billion for “Joint Efforts for the Poor” raised

On the evening of October 17, 2018 at the Cultural Palace (Hanoi), Chairwoman of the National Assembly attended a live TV program entitled “The whole country in joint efforts for the poor”.

Speaking at the event, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan pointed out that hunger eradiation and poverty reduction has been determined by the Party and the State as both the goal and the demand for the sustainable development and it has become the important subject, a national program, richly imbued with humanity.

She stressed that up to now, the poor household rate has sharply declined, to 6.7%. This result has made an important contribution to the stability and sustainable development of the country.

In response to the movement, the National Assembly Chairwoman called on the enterprises, organizations and individuals nationwide and abroad to continue to join hands to make greater contributions to the sustainable poverty reduction and construction of new rural areas.

On this occasion, over 100 domestic enterprises, organizations and individuals has registered to support the program with a sum of VND 857 billion./.

 

US Defense Secretary James Mattis visits Vietnam

US Defense Secretary James Mattis arrived in Tan Son Nhat Airport on October 16, starting his two-day official visit to Vietnam.

US Defense Secretary James Mattis makes an inspection tour to the dioxin-contaminated environment treatment at Bien Hoa Airport, Dong Nai Province

The same day, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan cordially received James Mattis.

During his visit, US Defense Secretary James Mattis made an inspection tour to the dioxin-contaminated area at Bien Hoa Airport, Dong Nai Province. Over 500,000 cubic meters of land were heavily contaminated by dioxin during the war.

In May 2018, USAID and the Air Defense Force and Air Force Service of Vietnam signed an agreement on treatment of dioxin contamination in Bien Hoa Airport area. The treatment cost is estimated at USD 390 million and it is expected to be completed in 10 years.

Right after his visit to Bien Hoa Airport, General Ngo Xuan Lich, Defense Minister of Vietnam, received US Defense Secretary and his delegation. Lich welcome the US cooperation in detoxification of dioxin-contaminated environment in Vietnam in recent time and stressed that Vietnam will continue to overcome the war aftermath, including the detoxification of dioxin-contaminated environment.

He proposed that in the coming time, the US should have active cooperation with Vietnam to soon deploy and complete the project on thorough-going treatment of dioxin in Bien Hoa Airport, so as to able to clear the contaminated land for economic development in Vietnam./.

 

5 collective units and 10 individuals awarded 2018 Vietnamese Women Prize

Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member, permanent member of the Secretariat and Ms Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, member of the Secretariat, Chief of the Civilian Mobilization Board of the Party Central Committee presented the prizes to 5 collective units and 10 individuals.

There are 20 startup projects selected for women, reflecting the dynamism, creativeness and eagerness to learn of the Vietnamese women./.

 

Da Nang-Quang Ngai Express Way under sudden inspection

After one year being put into operation, the Da Nang-Quang Ngai VND 34,000-billion express way has been seen with craters in a lot of sections.

The express way is 139 km long, running through Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Da Nang. On October 16, a sudden inspection was carried out. After one year being put into operation, the section from Km0 to Km65 of Da Nang-Quang Ngai Express Way is in bad state. The investor is requested to temporarily stop collecting the tolls until the damaged section is fully repaired./.

 

Vietnam Airlines puts in-town check-in service into official operation

On October 12, 2018, Vietnam Airlines officially launched the processing of the administrative and luggage procedures right in town. It is called the in-town check-in service.

More conveniences for passengers when to process administrative and luggage procedures right in town just to reduce traffic jams at the gates to the airport

Accordingly, two hours in the minimum and 12 hours in the maximum, passengers can come to the in-town check-in points inside the city to process the flight procedures. Here, passengers can process the check-in procedures themselves by choosing their own seats and especially could send their luggage and receive the boarding cards right after finishing the procedures.

It is hoped that the in-town check-in service could be served as a new beginning for the Vietnam aviation sector and an important progress in providing quality services./.

 

5th International Puppetry Festival in Vietnam organized

The 5th International Puppetry Festival was concluded on October 15, 2018 in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc and Ninh Binh with a lot of attractive activities.

The organizing board has awarded 2 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals to the best performance programs; 8 Gold Medals and 13 Silver Medals to the best artists.

The prize for young talents is awarded to artist Christian Elijah G. Lunaria of the Luria Puppetry Troupe from the Philippines.

The 5th International Puppetry Festival is crowned with success. The festival has brought together puppetry artists from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Wallonie – Bruzelles (Belgium), France and Brazil and domestic puppetry artists from the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, the Thang Long-Hanoi Puppetry Theatre, the Haiphong Puppetry Art Troupe and the Ho Chi Minh City Puppetry Art Troupe./.
