A range of violations of land in Thu Thiem exposed
On September 7, 2018, the Government Inspection made public the results of examination in some contents relating to the complaints of the people in the new urban area of Thu Thiem belonging to District 2, Ho Chi Minh City.
Thu Thiem urban area
In the report, the Inspection of the Government said that the Thu Thiem urban area lies on the eastern bank of the Saigon River, in the opposite of District 1, with the total land area of 930 hectares planned for a modern, sustainable urban area.
But things happened that about 23 hectares had been wrongly allocated to 5 enterprises to make investment, thus violating the stipulations of the city. As for the land compensation and the support to the people in resettlement, violations had also been made, say, no scheme had been made for compensation and floor space clearance; no general scheme ever made as the basis to pay for relocation and no plan ever made to build houses for resettlement before undertaking the floor space clearance.
On the other hand, the Government Inspection also shows some violations that run counter to the stipulations of the city’s functional agencies in the process of implementing the projects, such as the resettlement area of 160 hectares, the projects of 5 wards planned for the resettlement area and so on.
In conclusion, the Government Inspection affirmed that in the process of implementing the investment in building the Thu Thiem urban area, the People Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the concerned sectors had made certain shortcomings, affecting the benefits of a number of households in the area, thus causing strong complaints among the people.
The People’s Committee had also violated the stipulations of the law in formulating, approving and recovering the 160ha-large resettlement area.
It is proposed to consider and handle the organizations and individuals concerned for their shortcomings and mistakes in violation of the regulations concerning evaluation, designs and management./.
