State President appoints Ambassadors for 2018-2021 tenure
The State President in coordination with the Foreign Ministry on August 9, 2018 organized a ceremony to hand over the Decision of the State President on appointing 16 Ambassadors for 16 permanent locations and 29 concurrent locations for the 2018-2021 tenure.

On behalf of the leaders of the Party and State, President Tran Dai Quang attended the ceremony and handed over the Decision for the Ambassadors.
Also attending the ceremony was Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President stressed that this is the great honor and also the glorious responsibility entrusted by the Party, State and people to the Ambassadors and the heads of the representative offices. The President further said that the overseas Vietnamese are the close-knit, inseparable part of the nation. There are now about 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese living and tens of millions of people studying, working and doing business abroad.
For this reason, it is necessary for the Ambassadors and heads of the representative offices to pay attention to and give care of these people, taking it the constant task and making it the firmly reliable support for the overseas Vietnamese.
On behalf of the Ambassadors and heads of the representative offices, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vu Hong Nam cum the Ambassador in Japan expressed his honor and pride and undertook to make greater efforts to fulfill the task assigned by the Party, State and people.
Vietnamese representative elected to be Vice President of International Law Commission
Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao, a Vietnamese member at the International Law Commission, attended the 70th meeting of the Commission held on April 30 to June 1, 2018 at the UN Headquarters, New York and on July 3 to August 10, 2018 in Heneva.

This is an important meeting to commemorate the 70th founding anniversary of the International Law Commission, the UN chief organ in its codification and the progressive development of international law.
At the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao – member of Vietnam at the Commission – was honored to be elected the Second Vice President of the Commission.
The Vietnamese mission has taken an active part in the activities of the Commission by making proposals for the building of the stipulations of international law on the basis of the principles of respecting independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, human rights and sustainable development.
Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao earned a doctoral degree at Pantheon University – Sorbone, France in 1996. He is an expert in international law, environmental law, marine law, border demarcation with 40 years of experience in justice and foreign affairs./.

The Vietnamese delegation aims to win 3 gold medals and the medals in the key Olympic games. Tran Duc Phan, Head of the delegation, asserted that all the members of the delegation will help one another to overcome difficulties so as to create strength for the Vietnamese sports delegation and try to maintain the cultural and national identity.
The ASIAD 18 is to happen in Indonesia on August 18 to September 2, 2018. The Vietnamese sports delegation comprises 523 members. The delegation will participate in 32 games, including tracks and fields, shooting, swimming, gymnastics, pencak silat, karate, taekwondo, wushu, rowing, table tennis, male and female football, among others./.
Ministry of Public Security obliterates 6 General Departments and over 60 Profession Departments
On August 6, 2018, the Ministry of Public Security officially obliterated 6 General Departments, while over 60 department units were streamlined to lighten the apparatus.

On August 7, 2018, the Ministry of Public Security held a press conference to announce the implementation of the Decree of the Government on the function, obligations, rights and organization of the apparatus of the Ministry.
According to the Decree, the Ministry of Public Security will not have the general departments and streamline other units in the Ministry by merging the similar units so as to ensure that one unit can be able to carry out a lot of things.
According to the new model of the Ministry’s apparatus, 6 general departments will be obliterated and over 60 department-level units will be streamlined./.
Prof. Dam Thanh Son is awarded Dirac Physics Medal
The International Centre for Theoretical Physics has just awarded the prize and Direct Medal 2018 to 3 famous physicists, including Prof. Dam Thanh Son of Chicago University, the USA.

Prof. Dam Thanh Son was born in 1969 in Hanoi. He is now working at Chicago University and also the member of the US Science Academy.
Prof. Dam Thanh Son, among the three Dirac Prize Winners, takes the lead in using the interdisciplinary method to resolve the specific theoretical physics issues.
The Dirac Medal was first awarded in 1985 and this prize is awarded annually on the occasion of Dirac’s birthday, August 8.
5 Dirac Medal awardees had won the Nobel Prize and one of them won the Fields Prize./.
Vietnamese secondary school students record high achievements at WICO 2018
The Vietnamese delegation of secondary school students attending the WICO (World Invention and Creativity Olympic) 2018 competition have recorded the high achievements with one team winning 3 gold medals and another team winning one silver medal.

The subjects of the Vietnamese delegation have high application, mainly in science and environmental protection and they are highly appreciated by the jury.
For the first time, the Vietnamese delegation has won the best leading Innovation Award and also for the first time, it has shared the Semi Grand Award with the Indonesian delegation.
The WICO 2018 was organized on August 1-5, 2018, with 228 teams of about 1,100 contestants from 30 countries and territories. The WICO is the annual competition. It was established by the International Association of Invention and Creativity organized by Seoul University and funded by the Parliament of the Republic of South Korea./.
Two Public Security General dismissed and demoted
On August 8, 2018, President Tran Dai Quang signed the decision on demoting the general rank of the People’s Public Security of Tran Viet Tan and Bui Van Thanh.

Accordingly, Tran Viet Tan was demoted from General to Lieutenant-General and Bui Van Thanh was demoted from Lieutenant-General to Colonel.
On August 8, 2018, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed the decision on dismissing from office Vice Minister of Public Security Bui Tan Thanh due to his violations and serious shortcomings in work.
The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc decided to discipline Tran Viet Tan by dismissing him from the title of Vice Minister of Pub lic Security in the 2011-2016 stage. At the same time, Tan was demoted from General to Lieutenant General and Thanh was demoted from Lieutenant General to Colonel./.
44 new caves and grottos discovered in Phong Nha Ke Bang
New caves and grottos have been discovered in Phong Nha Ke Bang, mainly in the west of the National Park, announced Le Thanh Tinh, Director of the Ohong Nha Ke Bang National Park on August 7, 2018.
Son Dong Cave is now the biggest cave in the world
Of 44 newly discovered caves, 33 caves are located in Dan Hoa, Hoa Son, Trung Hoa and Thuong Hoa communes, Minh Hoa District, whereas, there are 9 new caves and grottos having been discovered in Son Trach commune, Bo Trach District. Two remaining caves were found in Truong Son and Truong Xuan communes, Quang Ninh District.
These 44 caves and grottos lie in 6 geological layers. They are distributed at the height of 44 to 602m above sea level. The average height is from 200m to 300m./.

Phan Thi Mow is 1.72cm tall and 46kg in weight. She was born in 1990. She was judged by the organizing board as having the best body among 18 contestants.
In 2011, Phan Thi Mo participated in the Miss Earth in the Philippines without any achievement. In 2012, she was among the top 5 Miss Vietnam.
The Miss World Tourism Ambassador came into being in 2017. In the last year competition organized in the Philippines, Lien Phuong of Vietnam was the runner-up./.
