5th Session of National Assembly opened

The 5th session of the National Assembly, 14th Legislature, was opened at the National Assembly House in Hanoi, on May 21.

At this session, 60% of the meeting time will be reserved for law building work with the consideration and approval of 8 draft laws and 1 draft Resolution and contribution of opinions to 8 other draft laws.

At the question-and-answer session, each question lasts one minute and each answer lasts 3 minutes.

The 5th session is expected to close on June 15, 2018.

Speaking at the opening session, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan pointed out that this session happened in the context that the domestic situation continued to see strong changes with positive achievements.

Economic growth rate in Q 1 reached the highest in 10 years. 2018 demands that the National Assembly should promote its renovation, creativity and action in the interests of the people and the nation. The Chairwoman of the National Assembly also said that the law-building work is the main content of this session, taking up two-thirds of the meeting time. The National Assembly will monitor closely the implementation of the policy and law on management and use of the State capital and assets at enterprises and the equitization of the State-owned enterprises in the 2011-2016 stage.

The Government Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh presents the report on the social and economic development situation in 2017, in which GDP growth rate was put at 6.81%; CPI average 3.53% and poverty rate was reduced to 1.51%./.


Australian General Governor Peter Cosgrove pays State visit to Vietnam

Australian General Governor Peter Cosgrove and his wife has paid a State visit to Vietnam on May 23-26, 2018 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations establishment (1973-2018) and the 20th anniversary of defense relations establishment.

The two sides will seriously consider the trade barriers that could impact each other’s exports; have the policy on encouraging and supporting enterprises of the two countries to make investments, thus creating a breakthrough in investment and trade cooperation in the coming time. Vietnam highly appreciates Australia’s continued ODA delivery to Vietnam, especially Cao Lanh Bridge which has been completed and opened to traffic on May 27, 2018 as scheduled.

The two sides also exchanged opinions on the regional and international issues of mutual concern. They also confirmed to continue to coordinate closely at the regional and international forums, including UNO and ASEAN; their coordination in the standpoints on the East Sea issue and the deployment of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The leaders of the two countries were of common view that Australia and Vietnam have still got a lot of potentials to enhance further the bilateral relations in the future./.


7 more Vietnamese officers join UN Peace-keeping force

China is requested to stop sending its bombers to Hoang Sa

That China illegally sends its bombers to Hoang Sa archipelago for military drill is a move to destabilize the region, declares the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam.


 China has many times illegally sent its bombers H-6K to the East Sea’s Truong Sa archipelago under Vietnam’s sovereignty

H-6K bombers of China were seen on May 18, 2018 operating on Phu Lam Island of Hoang Sa archipelago under Vietnam’s sovereignty.

In face of this incident, the Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang has recently affirmed that Vietnam has full legal basis and historical evidences to assert that Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos are under Vietnam’s sovereignty in conformity with international law.

That China’s bombers operating in Hoang Sa archipelago has violated seriously Vietnam’s sovereignty over this archipelago, running counter to the agreement on the fundamental principles to resolve the sea issues between Vietnam and China, violating the DOC between ASEAN and China and making bad impact on the process of negotiating between ASEAN and China to build the Code of Conduct (COC), the Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman stressed.

Vietnam requests that China should stop at once the above-said action, without militarizing the area, and respect Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa archipelago./.


VN-Index down its 1,000 points threshold

According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the erosion in the region has been happening in a complicated way in terms of scale and scope.

About 20 million people live and work in the region, but the most heavily hit areas included An Giang, Dong Thap, Ca Mau and Bac Lieu.
