Over 1,000 overseas Vietnamese come home and attend “2018 Homeland Spring – Vietnam with shining future”

A remarkable art exchange program to welcome the Year of the Dog was organized by the Foreign Ministry on the night of February 7, 2018 to welcome home the overseas Vietnamese.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warmly welcomes overseas Vietnamese who come home to enjoy “2018 Homeland Spring – Vietnam with shining future”

Attending the event were President Tran Dai Quang; Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and over 1,000 overseas Vietnamese representing a community of 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese living and working in 109 countries and territories in the world.

In a warm, cordial atmosphere imbued with the spirit of “national love and compatriot compassion”, President Tran Dai Quang reviewed the outstanding achievements of the country in 2017, stressing that this is the first time in many years, we have fulfilled and overfulfilled all the 13 criteria for social and economic development set by the National Assembly.

The President affirmed that in these common achievements, there are very precious material and spiritual contributions of overseas Vietnamese. In spite of difficulties, the community of overseas Vietnamese has always united and helped one another in life, maintained national cultural identity and turned towards the homeland.

Once again, the President affirmed that overseas Vietnamese are inseparable part of blood and flesh of the Vietnamese nation. The Fatherland has always opened wide its arms to welcome home its dear sons and daughters.

*On the afternoon of February 7, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warmly welcomed and thanked overseas Vietnamese for having come home to enjoy the traditional Lunar New Year together with the entire people at home in a reception reserved for the overseas Vietnamese.

12 cooperation documents to take Vietnam-Laos relationship to new height

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister of Laos Thoonglun Sisulith have recently jointly witnessed the signing ceremony of 12 cooperation documents at the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister of Laos Thoonglun Sisulith co-chaired the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee in Vientiane on February 5.

Prime Minister of Laos Thoonglun Sisulith highly appreciated the significance of the meeting and believed that the meeting would make a contribution to enhancing the cooperation between the two countries in a more intensive and extensive manner, thus taking the traditional friendly relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation of Laos and Vietnam to the new height.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is the special relationship that needs constant fostering and development; Vietnam has always attached importance to its cooperation with Laos in national development and will do everything it can to boost vigorously this intimate fraternal relationship and close and effective cooperation in all fields.

The two sides expressed elation and highly valued the results of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. In 2017, the two sides implemented effectively the Senior Agreement and the agreements between ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries; especially the two sides organized successfully “the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam 2017 Year of Friendship and Solidarity”.

The two sides unanimously agreed that in 2018, they will focus on satisfactorily implementing the Joint Declarations and Agreements of the senior leaders of the two countries; the agreements between ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries.

At the meeting, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of 12 cooperation documents./.

54 outstanding works have won the second Golden Dickle and Hammer Award, in which there are 6 prizes A, 8 prizes B, 15 prizes C and 25 consolation prizes.

Tran Quoc Vuong and Vo Van Thuong present Prizes A to winners

On the occasion of the 88th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2018) a press award presentation ceremony named the Golden Sickle and Hammer Award was organized in Hanoi on February 3 by the Party Organizational Committee in coordination with Nhan Dan Daily, the Communist review, the Vietnam Television and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.

Tran Quoc Vuong and Vo Van Thuong presented Prize A to the winners.

Present at the prize presentation ceremony were General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, many Politburo members and Secretariat members.

There are 2,000 entries, a 70% increase as compared to the first Award in 2016. A lot of professional and non-professional journalists, Party members, governmental employees and pensioners nationwide and from abroad have joined the writing competition.

Pham Minh Chinh, on behalf of the Award Steering Board, officially launched the Third Press Award named Golden Sickle and Hammer Award./.

A grand flag raising ceremony on Tran Hung Dao 015 and Quang Trung 016 Gerard Missile Escort Ships was organized at Cam Ranh Military Port, Khanh Hoa Province on February 6.

Committee of State Capital management of over 5 trillion dongs at enterprises established

The Government has just issued Resolution 09/NQ-CP on establishing the Committee to manage State capital at enterprises.

The Committee of State capital management helps the Government to manage and supervise about 5 trillion dongs at enterprises

The Committee of State Capital Management at enterprises under the Government will exercise the function of a representative of the owner of the enterprise, in which 100% charter capital and the State capital invested in the joint stock companies and the two-member companies of limited liabilities is owned by the State.

The Committee has legal status, a seal with national emblem image and account opened at the State Treasury.

The Committee will help the Government to manage and supervise effectively the capital and assets of the State at enterprises; carry out restructure, divestment and innovation to improve efficiency of the State-run enterprises.

This block of enterprises has now the total value of capital and asset of 5 trillion dongs. It is planned that there will be 30 enterprises and economic groups being shifted to the management of this Committee./.

 

Longest cold snap with below 10°C ever recorded in North Vietnam

As meteorologists remarked, this is the unprecedented longest cold snap with below 10°C ever recorded in the North of Vietnam.

North Vietnam is now being hit by the longest cold snap ever recorded in history

The North of Vietnam is now undergoing the longest cold snap ever recorded in history with temperature being below 10°C on average. In 2008, there was also a cold snap (below 15°C) lasting 38 days in the North and the Northern part of Central Vietnam. In 2016, there was a cold snap with temperature being 6°C to 7°C, but it lasted only 7 days.

As the Tet days are round the corner, the cold temperature in the North is also influencing the South, particularly Ho Chi Minh City, thus making the temperature of the city reduce sharply to below 20°C./.

 

Foreign exchange reserve hits new record

As of February 6, 2018, foreign exchange reserve of the country reached USD 57 billion, according to Governor of the Atate Bank of Vietnam Le Minh Hung.

The State Bank of Vietnam has bought over USD 4 billion so far; in 2017 only, it bought USD 13 billion to add the foreign exchange reserve.

This is the vigorous and prominent move on the first days of the New Year with stable exchange rate, thus contributing to increasing prestige and position of Vietnam, especially towards foreign investors.

In 2017, the State Bank of Vietnam adjusted the exchange rate flexibly, making the foreign currency market and the gold market more stable, thus meeting the requirement of foreign currency for the economy and giving good support to export activities.

On the other hand, the exchange rate between USD and VND remains stable in late 2017 and early 2018./.

 

Vietnam stock exchange sees record point drop in 2 sessions

The Vietnam stock exchange has seen the record point drops in the trading sessions in recent time.

The trading sessions on February 5 and 6 see the record point drop

At the trading sessions on February 5 and 6, 2018, a biggest drop in points and value of capitalization was ever seen. At the February 5, more than USD 8.3 billion were evaporated and the next day another USD 5.8 billion were gone without any traces.

This is the record fall in points so far of the market. As experts viewed it, the pressure during the approach of the Tet days might be the reason. Many investors inclined to realize the profits in the last week before the Tet holiday comes.

However, as far as the long term is concerned, 2018 will be a profitable year for the stock exchange market. It is forecast by many experts that VN-Index in the end of this year could be able to obtain 1,300 points, even 1,600 points. It is hopeful that in the next sessions, the domestic market will be balanced./.

 

Thousands of fruit-transporting lorries get stuck at Tan Thanh border gate

A lot of solutions have been taken to reduce the congestion ò farm produce at Lang Son border gate.

Thousands of lorries transporting agricultural products have got stuck on a 10km-long road to border gate

On February 6 and 7, over 8,000 tons of water melon and blue dragon fruit were exported to China through Tan Thanh border gate, Lang Son Province. Yet, thousands of lorries transporting farm produce are being jammed on a 10km-long road.

To guarantee order and security, a lot of teams were set up and the customs clearance time starts from 8 o’clock a.m. to 9 o’clock p.m. so as to have more goods going through the border gate.

The Lang Son authorities had worked with the Chinese counterparts to coordinate actions just to help relieve the pressure and congestion at the border gate./.

 

Traditional taxi sues technological taxi

Hundreds of Vinasun taxi drivers (Ho Chi Minh City) were found present at the court to sue Grab Taxi Vietnam (Grab), asking for non-contractual damages.

Hundreds of Vinasun taxi drivers are present at the court to sue Grab Taxi Vietnam

According to the lawyer protecting the legal rights and interests for Vinasun, since 2014, Grab has carried out a lot of illegal business ploys, causing direct and serious losses to Vinasun. For this reason, Vinasun has sued Grab, asking for damages.

Vinasun has provided all evidences proving that Grab has violated the law, causing practical losses, thus Vinasun has asked a compensation of VD 41.2 billion as non-contractual loss.

However, Grab denied the accusation and asked the trial panel to cease the trial. After two days of trial, on February 7, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City temporarily ceased the trial./.
