The grand 50th anniversary of the 1968 Mau Than Spring General Offensive and Uprising was celebrated at Independence Palace, Ho Chi Minh City on January 31, 201 jointly by the Party Central Committee and Ho Chi Minh City.

Attending the ceremony were General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, State President Tran Dai Quang. Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Secretary of Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Thien Nhan and a lot of leaders, former leaders of the Party and State, Vietnamese heroic mothers and war veterans.
In the opening speech, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Thien Nhan recalled the heroic and magnanimous days of the 1968 Mau Than Spring General Offensive and Uprising. He reserved special thanks to war martyrs and heroes who had laid down their lives during the 1968 general offensive and uprising days.
“These days will become forever the symbol of patriotism, iron will and the determine-to-fight, determine-to-win spirit of the entire Party, army and people to win national independence and freedom” – Mr. Nhan stressed./.
Sea of national flags to welcome home U-23 Football Team of Vietnam
It took the national U-23 football team of Vietnam 5 hours to go from Noi Bai International Airport after winning the silver medal of the AFC U-23 Championship. The reason is that the team had to parade amid the sea of humans waving the national flags to welcome the team home.

Welcoming the team home, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that he had been waiting for over 5 hours, but he was very glad for this waiting. Then on behalf of the Party and the State, the Prime Minister conferred Labor Order, First Class, upon the U-23 football team of Vietnam, Labor Order, Third Class upon Coach Park Hang-seo, goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung and mid-fielder Nguyen Quang Hai.
After that, about 20.00 hrs on January 28, all the members of the team moved to My Dinh Stadium where 40,000 supporters were waiting to welcome them home.
On January 29, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met the team at Dien Hong Convention Hall of the National Assembly House. During the meeting, the coaching staff members and footballers of the team signed their names on the national flag which used to fly over Lung Cu, Ha Giang Province.
On February 1, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc handed to Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism the ball and the footballers’ jerseys with the signatures of all the members of the U-23 football team of Vietnam for a widespread auction and the proceeds will be given to the families with contributions to the revolution and to the poor households./.
Government holds its regular monthly meeting of January 2018
The Government held its regular monthly meeting of January 2018 on January 2 under the chair of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Population of Vietnam is around 94 million

In January, tourists coming from Asia are numbered in 1,046,700, a 53% increase year on year, while those from Europe are put at 225,500, a 22.5% increase year one year.
Tourists coming from America stands at 97,700, a 7.7% increase year on year, in which tourists from the US reached 72,600, an 8% increase, while those coming from Australia reached 55,300, a 13.5% increase./.
Longest cold snap in North Vietnam
According to the Center for Hydrometeorology Forecast, the North of Vietnam has undergone the longest cold snap in the past 2 years with snow and ice covering white the whole region.
