Chaired by the Prime Minister, the year-end meeting of the Government was attended by the General Secretary, the President and the National Assembly Chairwoman.

On the morning of December 28, 2017, chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, an on-line Government meeting with localities, focusing on the discussion about the solutions to implement the social and economic tasks and the estimated State budget in 2018 was held.

He also drew attention to the difficulties and challenges the country is still facing, to the economic situation in the world hidden with latent risks. It is necessary to have synchronous solutions to overcome limitations in the economic development.

GDP 2017 reaches 6.81%, inflation curbed
GDP of Vietnam in 2017 is estimated to increase by 6.81%, the highest in the past 6 years. Inflation is low with an increase of 3.53%.

According to the General Department of Statistics, GDP in 2017 is increased by 6.81%, in which the agricultural, forestry and fisheries areas have got considerable recovery at 2.9%; the industrial and building areas, 8% and the services area, 7.44%.
GDP per capita is estimated at VND 53.5 million, an increase of USD 170 over 2016.
On December 26, at the meeting of the Advisory Council of Finance and Monetary policy chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, the Council assessed that the whole country had completed and over-fulfilled the economic and social criteria and a success year in terms of microeconomic index.
However, there are still certain internal hurdles, say, technological level is still low, land and resources are getting gradually exhausted and competitiveness of the economy is yet to have a breakthrough./.
Typhoon 16 and anomaly of storm season 2017
Typhoon Tembin or typhoon16 made landfall onto the Philippine, killing about 200 people and about 160 people missing. The storm will hit the coastal area of Ba Ria-Ving Tau and Ca Mau with velocity of level 12.

It is predicted that in 2018, there will be about 15.5 international tourist arrivals; the total revenue will stand at VND 620,000 billion./.
Japan tops FDI investors again in Vietnam
About 115 countries and territories have invested in Vietnam so far, in which Japan ranks top with its total investment capital being put at USD 9.11 billion, accounting for 25.4% of the total investment capital.

According to the Foreign Investment Department, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in general, in 12 months of 2017, the total investment capital of the newly licensed investment projects is put at USD 35.88 billion, a y.o.y 44.4% increase, while the realized investment capital stands at USD 17.5 billion, a y.o.y 10.8% increase.
Specifically, there are now 2,600 new investments projects nationwide with the total registered investment capital of USD 21.3 billion.
The processing and manufacturing industries are still the ones that have attracted a lot of attention of foreign investors with the total investment capital being put at USD 15.87 billion, accounting for 44.2% of the total registered capital.
Ranked second is the production and distribution areas with the total investment capital of USD 8.37 billion, accounting for 23.3% of the total registered investment capital. The third is the real estate business area with the total investment capital of USD 3.05 billion, occupying 8.5% of the total registered capital.
Of the 115 countries and territories having invested in Vietnam, Japan ranks the first with the Nghi Son thermal electric power plant, the Van Phong thermal electric power plant and the Nam Dinh I thermal electric power plant.
The Republic of Korea ranks second with the total registered investment capital of USD 8.49 billion, accounting for 23.7% of the total investment capital in Vietnam and Singapore ranks the third with the total registered investment capital of USD 5.3 billion, accounting for 14.8% of the total investment capital./.
Da Lat Flower Festival opens

Google, Facebook cooperates with Vietnam to stop malwares
Google and Facebook have actively cooperated with Vietnam, in which Google has removed 4,500 out of 5,000 malicious, toxic video clips on YouTube as requested by the Ministry of Information and Communications, announced Minister Truong Minh Tuan at the year-end review meeting on December 22, 2017.

In the past year, the Ministry of Information and Communications have strengthened information management on the Internet. The Ministry is active and proactive to work with Facebook and Google concerning the establishment of mechanism to stop and remove malicious and toxic information that violate the law of Vietnam.
As a result, Facebook set up a private channel with the Ministry of Information and Communication so as to meet the requirements of the management of the State of Vietnam. Facebook committed to working together with the Ministry to remove the fake information and accounts of individuals and organizations.
The Ministry also worked with Google to stop and remove bad, toxic information on YouTube.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam proposed that there should be a consensus in society in combat against bad, toxic information on social networking. All the bad, toxic information on the Internet and social networking sites must be completely handled.
Minister Truong Minh Tuan also said that a code of conduct on the network environment is being studied and built in order to minimize the bad, malicious information on the Internet and social networking./.
Avocado to be exported to US market for first time
The first lot of avocado of Cat Tuong Company, My Tho City has been exported to the US market, announced the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Avocado has become the fifth fruit of Vietnam to have been exported to the US market, after blue dragon, longana, rambutan and litchi.
The US market is the third market for Vietnam’s export of vegetable and fruit. In 2016, the explort value stood at 84.5 million, a 44.2% increase year on year. In 11 months of 2017, Vietnam has exported fruit to the US market with a value of USD 92.6 million, a 21.3% increase year on year.
After 10 years of negotiation, a lot of technical barriers have been removed and avocado could be able to enter this demanding market, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, further stressing that Vietnam is the first country that has been licensed to export fresh avocado to the US market./.
