Government invites General Secretary to attend year-end review meeting

That the Government has invited the General Secretary of the Party to attend its year-end review meeting is considered as unprecedented.

A Government meeting

On the threshold of the 2017 review meeting of the Government expected to begin at the end of this month, the Government has confirmed that it has “especially extended an invitation to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to attend the meeting and speak at it. This is what the Government as well as the administration system has expected”.

So, if General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong confirms his agreement, this will be unprecedented so far. It is because of the fact that in the activities of the State apparatus concerning the legislative and executive implementation, the General Secretary has so far appeared at the sessions of the National Assembly in a capacity as mainly a deputy of the National Assembly.

According to Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, this Conference will review the work done in implementing the resolution after one year and so, an invitation has extended to the General Secretary to attend and give his guiding opinions as the Chief of the Party to the ministries, sectors and localities.

The upcoming conference will discuss and unanimously agree to issue Resolution on the main tasks and solutions to the implementation of the social-economic development plan and estimated State budget in 2018.

As Nguyen Van Nen, Chief of the Office of the Party Central Committee said, the social and economic development is the task of the whole political system, not only of the Government. So, not only the chairmen of the People’s Committee of provinces, but also the secretaries of the Party Committees of provinces will attend this meeting. That the General Secretary attends and speaks at the conference is of great significance./.

Vietnam Development Forum, 2017 Vietnam Business Forum well organized

The 2017 Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) themed “Productivity raising, Leverage of Vietnam’s Sustainable Growth” held on December 13, 2017 is an opportunity for Vietnam to find out the explanation for the sustainable growth problem.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attends 2017 Vietnam Business Forum

Sustainable growth is the great challenge for Vietnam because it is one of the high economic growths; yet, the speed of growth of Vietnam’s economy has been relatively rapidly slowing down, from 7.3% in the 1990-200 stage to 6.7% in the 2001-2010 stage and continues to reduce by 5.96% in the 2011-2016 stage.

Vietnam’s economic growth in 2017 could be able to reach 6.&%. This is an impressive growth in the context that the world’s economy has met with a lot of difficulties and so does Vietnam’s economy.

Speaking at the Forum, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc shared with the delegates the social and economic development achievements of Vietnam, further pointing out the weaknesses even though great efforts have been made. As the Prime Minister viewed it, Vietnam should make greater efforts while soliciting more consultancies from the development partners, enterprises community and experts at home and abroad so as to be able to find out the suitable policy solutions.

Earlier on December 12, the 2017 Vietnam Business Forum was held in Hanoi. This is the annual dialogue channel with the Government of Vietnam.

Having listened to the opinions from the enterprises’ Associations of Vietnam, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US and Europe, Prime Minister took the floor, evaluating the ever growing development of the Vietnamese enterprises in the past 20 years with GDP increasing 8 fold, say, GDP in 1997 was put at USD 27 billion; in 2017, it is estimated at USD 220 billion and it is expected to reach USD 300 billion by 2020.

However, as the head of the Government viewed it, there are still a lot of limitations, difficulties and challenges that demand greater efforts and creativity of the Government, the enterprises’ community and people to turn difficulties and challenges into the opportunities for faster and sustainable development. And the enterprises’ community is creating important motive force to materialize the aspiration for prosperity of the Vietnamese nation./.
