President of Poland Andrzej Duda makes a State visit to Vietnam
President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda and his wife made a State visit to Vietnam on November 27-30, 2017 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

After the welcoming ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang held talks with President Andrzej Duda. President Tran Dai Quang affirmed that Vietnam has always attached great importance to the strengthening and development of the relations with the traditional friends in the Central and Eastern Europe with Poland as its priority partner.
President Andrzej Duda also affirmed that Poland has always attached importance to the traditional friendly relations and wished to develop the relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields on the basis of mutual interests.
The President of Poland affirmed that Poland supports Vietnam as a candidate for the position of the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council of the 2020-2021 term and supports the early approval of EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
The two leaders have highly appreciated the rapid development in the economic-trade-investment cooperation between the two countries in recent time. Poland is now the biggest trade partner of Vietnam in Eastern Europe. The two-way turnover in 2016 reached a record USD 720 million and in 9 months of 2017, it is put at USD 730 million, a y.o.y 25% increase; the total investment captal of Poland in Vietnam in the 2014-2017 stage stood at USD 189 million, a two-fold increase.
After the talks, the two leaders held a press conference and witnessed the signing ceremony of the Agreement of Financial Cooperation; the agreement on educational cooperation and many memoranda of understanding on cooperation in resources and environment, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and news agencies./.

On the morning of November 27, 2017, the Chairwoman of the National Assembly and the senior delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam visited the Asian Civilization Museum (ACM) and offered incenses at the Statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Singapore.
The Chairwoman of the National Assembly during her courtesy meeting with Singaporean President Halimah Jaco expressed her elation at meeting Madame Halimah in her new position. She believed that the President will continue to make important contributions to the relations and cooperation between the two legislatures, thus further deepening the strategic partnership between Singapore and Vietnam.
In her audience with Prime Minister Lee Jsien Loong on the afternoon of November 27, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy to attach importance to the development of the strategic partnership with Singapore. She further stressed that the role of Singapore is very important and Vietnam will coordinate with Singapore so that Singapore will fulfill its role as the President of ASEAN 2018 and the coordinator of the ASEAN-China relationship.
Speaking at the Vietnam-Singapore business dialogue, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan stressed that Vietnam has opened wide its door to welcome the Singaporean enterprises and committed that it will accompany them in the process of investment and business in Vietnam.
After that, the Chairwoman of the National Assembly witnessed the signing ceremony of the agreement on cooperation between Da Nagn City and the Singaporean Manufacturing Federation.

On the morning of November 29, 2017, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam arrived at the military airport Fairbairn, the capital Canberra, starting her official visit to Australia at the invitation of the Parliament and Government of Australia.
Right after the welcoming ceremony, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tom Smith, President of the Senate of Australia Scott Ryan and Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks.
After having kept the hosts informed of Vietnam’s social and economic development, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that Vietnam continues giving priority to developing the relations and cooperation with all countries and at the same time striving to deepen further the relations with the principal partners, including Australia. She also affirmed that the National Assembly of Vietnam has supported to soon lifting the relationship between the two countries to the Strategic Partnership level.
At the talks, the leaders of the two countries are elated to find that the bilateral relations have developed essentially and effectively, especially since the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2009 and the Strategic Partnership in 2015.
The Speakers of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate of Australia affirmed that the visit is of important significance, making a contribution to consolidating and further boosting the Enhanced Comprehensive Partnership in a move to upgrade the Vietnam-Australia relationship to the Strategic Partnership in 2018./.
Foreign investment capital in Vietnam increases sharply
In general in the past 11 months, the total investment capital that includes new registered capital, added capital and share-purchasing contributed capital of foreign investors has increased by 53.4% year on year.

According to the latest statistics from the Foreign Investment Department, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as of November 20, there are 2,293 new investment projects with the total registered capital of USD 19.8 billion, a y.o.y. increase of 52%.
So, in general in 11 months, the total investment capital is put at USD 33.09 billion, a y.o.y 53.4% increase.
The FDI capital has flown into 19 areas, in which the manufacturing industry is the leading unit with USD 14.95 billion, accounting for 45.2% of the total registered capital in 11 months.
The power supply and production industry ranks the second with the total investment capital USD 8.37 billion, accounting for 25.3% of the total registered capital. The real estate business is the second runner-up with the total registered capital of USD 2.5 billion, accounting for 7.6%.
Japan ranks first in investment in Vietnam; the runners-up are the Republic of Korea and Singapore./.
Government holds its November 2017 regular meeting
On the morning of December 1, 2017, the Government started its November 2017 regular meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The meeting happened at the time when there is still one month to go before seeing 2017 off, a year full of difficulties and challenges. Only in November, Vietnam was hard hit by two consecutive storms. Yet, up to now the social and economic situation remains stable with many positive results being made. !3 targets out of 13 set by the National Assembly have been implemented and even over-fulfilled. On the other hand, ] November has witnessed a lot of important events, especially the well-prepared and successfully implemented APEC Year 2017 in Da Nang.
According to the report of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, macro economy remains stable; inflation has been reigned in with CPI in November having increased 0.13% and basic inflation increases y 1.42%.
Industrial production continues to increase by 9.3% in 11 months. The service has vigorously recovered with the total retail level and consumer service revenue being up by 10.7% in 11 months. International tourists coming to Vietnam in the past 11 months are 11.65 million arrivals, a 27.8% increase.
The FDI capital has increased strongly with the registered capital being put at USD 19.8 billion, a 52% increase; the total new, added investment capital and the share-purchasing capital have reached USD 33.1 billion, a 53.4% increase. Export value has reached USD 193 billion, in which trade surplus stood at USD 2.8 billion.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc concluded that we have one month to go before the year 2017 goes out. There is still a load of work to do, so there should be no subjectivity and the Government members are requested to focus their attention to fulfill the set targets./.
20th National Film Festival concludes successfully
The 20th National Film Festival concluded successfully on the night of November 28. 2017 with the award presentation ceremony held in Da Nang City.

As Mr. Bui Hien viewed it, for nearly a century, the Vietnamese alphabets have revealed many shortcomings that need improvement so as to make it easier to remember. A representative of the Ministry of Education and Training said that the Ministry is not fully competent and has not any plan on the improvement of the alphabets of the Vietnamese language for now.
Any suggestions or proposals of scientific significance are welcomed. However, the proposal for the improvement of the alphabets of the Vietnamese language must be evaluated by experts and opinion of the people nationwide and considered by the National Assembly, the Government and the Ministry of Education and Training before making any decision. There is not any plan on improvement of the alphabets of the national language at present time./.
Over 1 million international tourists to Vietnam in November
About 1.2 million international tourist arrivals have come to Vietnam in November 2017, a 14% increase over the previous month.

According to the report of the General Department of Statistics, there are about 1.2 million international tourist arrivals in November in Vietnam.
Among the international tourists coming to Vietnam, the number of tourists from Asia has sharply increased with over 30%, whereas, guests from European, Australia and American continents have also increased by 10% respectively.
All told, about 11.6 international tourist arrivals have come to Vietnam in 11 months of 2017, a y.o.y increase of 27.8%. The greatest number of international tourists coming to Vietnam is from China with about 3.6 million, a 45% increase; guests from the Republic of Korea are about 2 million; from Japan, 700,000 arrivals.
The reason for the sharp increase of international tourist arrivals is the propaganda and promotion of Vietnamese images during the APEC Year 2017./.

Accelerating investigation, prosecution and trial of corruption cases
The standing board of the Central Steering Committee on combat against corruption has planned to finalize the investigation, prosecution and trial of 15 criminal cases and 8 other serious corruption and economic cases.

The Standing board of the Central Steering Committee on the combat against corruption held a meeting on November 25, 2017 in Hanoi to discuss on the progress and the results obtained in the investigation, prosecution and trial of a number of cases. General Secretary, Chief of the Committee, Nguyen Phu Trong chaired the meeting.
Through the trial of Ha Van Tham and accomplices, a lot of signs have been revealed relating to the leaders of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN). In another case, Trinh Xuan Thanh and accomplices had committed crimes of public property embezzlement and deliberate violations of economic management, causing serious consequences at the PetroVietnam Construction Company (PVC).
Concluding the conference, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the work done in the combat against corruption so far. However, more determination is needed to put to trial the above-said cases in early 2018./.
