APEC Summit Week 2017 opens in Da Nang
On November 6, the APEC Summit Week 2017 officially started and prolonged from November 6 to 11, 2017.

President Tran Dai Quang has hosted and attended the main events of the APEC Summit Week 2017. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the Vietnam Business Summit 2017 on December 7 and spoke before 2,000 top prestigious enterprises in Asia, Pacific and the world.
President Tran Dai Quang spoke at the APEC Business Summit that happened on November 8-10. On November 8, the APEC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting 29 (AMM 29) opened in Da Nang City. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh co-hosted the conference.
The APEC Summit Week 2017 is attended by leaders of 21 APEC economies with the important speeches, including those of US President Donald Trump, General Secretary-President Xi Jinping of China and President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
According to the agenda, the leaders of 21 economies will discuss and approve the results of big cooperation for the whole year and the orientation for cooperation of the APEC Economic Forum in the following years. The agenda will be closely associated with the concretization of the theme “Together creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future” and 4 priorities of the APEC Year 2017 to enhance the sustainable, creative and inclusive growth, boost the intensive and extensive economic linkage; improve competitiveness and creativity of super-small, small and medium enterprises in the digital age and enhance food security and sustainable agriculture to adapt to climate change.
Apart from this, the APEC Summit Week will witness various activities with the participation of the leaders of world and regional top economic groups, expressing the close binding of APEC with the enterprises’ community.

On November 9, 2017, President Tran Dai Quang hosted the official welcoming ceremony in honor of President of the Republic of Chile Michelle Bachelet at the Presidential Palace.
After that President Tran Dai Quang and President Michelle Bachelet held talks at the Presidential Palace. After the talks, President Tran Dai Quang and President Michelle Bachelet signed the Vietnam-Chile Joint Statement and witnessed the signing ceremony of 3 bilateral documents.
President Michelle Bachelet extended an invitation to President Tran Dai Quang for a State visit to Chile. The time for the visit will be arranged through the diplomatic channel.
Vietnam and Chile established diplomatic relations on March 25, 1971. The friendly relations and solidarity were established quite a long time ago by two great leaders of the two countries: President Ho Chi Minh and late President Salvador Allende.
At noon on the same day, President Tran Dai Quang hosted a grand State banquet in honor of President Michelle Bachelet and the senior delegation of the Republic of Chile on the occasion of the State visit to Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, President Tran Dai Quang said that the Vietnam visit of President Michelle Bachelet and the senior delegation of the Chilean Government is an important landmark, affirming the will and wish of the leaders and people of the two countries to continue to consolidate and further deepen the relationship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Chile in the coming time.
In her response, President Michelle Bachelet stressed that in the minds of the Chilean people there are still the vivid images of the severe challenges the Vietnamese people had undergone through in the struggle for national independence and then they had to try their hardest to overcome the terrible consequences of the war. Chile and Vietnam have come to mutual understanding through the cultural exchanges to help the people of the two countries understand each other much better and boost the bilateral trade and maintain political dialogue at different levels.
President Michelle Bachelet affirmed that the friendship between Chile and Vietnam is not purely an institutional relationship. This relationship which has been fostered by the people and organizations is the precious and very deep heritage and also the basis for the orientation of the relations of the two countries in the future./.
Vietnam – Canada establishes framework for comprehensive partnership
On November 8, 2017, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Hanoi, starting an official visit to Vietnam on November 8-9, 2017 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

On the morning of November 5, 2017, the grand centenary ceremony of the October Revolution of Russia (October 7, 1917 – October 7, 2017) was organized in Hanoi.

Storm 12 causes 91 deaths and 23 missings
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong on November 9 chaired a meeting on overcoming the consequences of storm 12 (Damrey) in the Central and Highlands provinces.

According to the report of the localities and ministries and sectors concerned, as of November 8, Storm 12 cause 91 deaths and 23 missings.
The storm destroyed 1,486 houses and damaged 119,361 others. Khanh Hoa province is the hardest hit. Agriculturally, the storm submerged 9,350 hectares of rice fields, 15,203 hectares of vegetables, destroyed 25,957 cages of aqua culture and sunk and damaged 1,294 boats.
On the other hand, the storm destroyed the road, train and air traffic system. The electricity sector was also badly hit.
Right after storm 12 had gone, storm 13 is going to hit Vietnam.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia ordered the Russian Government to send urgent relief aid to the flooded areas in Central Vietnam with USD 5 million. Russian IL-76 air plane on November 9 landed on Cam Ranh International Airport, carrying 40 tons of relief goods, including sugar, mild, canned pork, fish and tents. Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duy Bac expressed his emotion at the special sentiment Russia has reserved for the Vietnamese people./.
National brand of Vietnam appraised at USD 203 billion
The value of the national brand of Vietnam is still left far behind other regional countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia even though the country has obtained vigorous growth.

The Brand Finance firm has just made public the list of 100 countries with the greatest value in the world in 2017.
Specifically, Vietnam is rated the 45th among the 100 economies, 5 ranks higher than last year. The value of the national brand of Vietnam is put at USD 203 billion, a 43% increase as compared with USD 141 billion in 2016.
With the fast increase in rank and value, Vietnam is listed among the Top 10 countries that have the fastest growth of brand. Yet, this growth is still behind Iceland with 83% and Spain, 46%.
In the Southeast Asian countries, the brand value of Vietnam is still left behind Singapore (USD 464 billion, Malaysia (USD489), Thailand (USD 483 billion), the Philippines (USD 466 billion) and Indonesia (USD 845 billion).
On top of the list is the US with USD 21,055 billion; China is second with USD 10,209 billion, a 44% increase over 2016; Japan is the third with USD 4,021 billion./.
Vietnam become destination of new investments
On November 8, 2017, in Da Nang, the PricewaterhouseCooper Co. (PwC) – made public the report “2017 APEC CEO Survey”.

The results of the PwC’s survey shows the CEO’s optimistic degree concerning the revenue growth of 21 economies of the APEC members at the highest level in the past 3 years. The economies that have attracted the biggest domestic investments are Vietnam, Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Vietnam, China, Indonesia, the US and Thailand are the top destinations of APEC CEOs. On the other hand, 80% CEO of Malaysia and 86% CEO of Vietnam wish to expand globally.
As Chairman of PwC Bob Moritz said, in short term, APEC will be boosted to improve its global influence and accelerate trade when 71% CEOs wish to rely more on the business partnerships and joint ventures in the future.
Ms Dinh Thi Quynh Van, General Director of PwC Vietnam, remarked that the optimistic degree of CEOs in Vietnam is now at high level. It is no surprise at all as about half of foreign investors in Vietnam (47%) plan to increase investment capital in Vietnam in the next 12 months. These CEOs are feeling upbeat because the domestic economy is expanding with expectation of new growth from the trade agreements and vigorous export activities in the region and the intra-block.
The report was made by soliciting the opinions of over 1,412 CEOs and leaders of 21 economies of the APEC members./.
11 countries joining TPP meets in Da Nang

Japanese Minister of Economy Toshimitsu Motegi said that he wanted to have an agreement in principle right here and he was very pleased to see that the negotiators were trying to reach an agreement.
The leaders after the first meeting said that they needed many more discussions, but they were hopeful about the result. What they need now is the consensus and sharing so as to create conditions for TPP to continue to have better quality and practical value.
TPP-11 is the name of the agreement among 11 remaining members of TPP./.
Trịnh Văn Bô, patriotic capitalist, has his name in Ha Noi street
The 5th session of the Hanoi People’s Council has planned to approve in early December 2017 the Resolution on naming the patriotic capitalist Trịnh Văn Bô for a street in Cau Giay district.

Trinh Van Bo Street is 1.2 km long. It lies at the crossroad of Nguyen Dinh Hoan Street to Phung Chi Kien Road.
Old Trinh Van Bo (1914-1988) and his wife Hoang Thi Minh Ho (1932) were the owners of Phuc Loi Fabric Shop in Hang Ngang Street. With the patriotic spirit, they had reserved the house No. 48, Hang Ngang Street for the revolutionaries. And in this very house where President Ho Chi Minh wrote the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.
And then a few days later, in response to the Gold Week launched by the Revolutionary Government, Trinh Van Bo decided to offer 5,147 taels of gold.
His wife passed away on November 5, 2017, aged 104, in her house at No. 34, Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi.
